I is for...

The Inspiration of Dreams

Pay attention to your dreams - God's angels often speak directly to our hearts when we are asleep.

~Quoted in The Angels' Little Instruction Book by Eileen Elias Freeman, 1994

Early morning, when the air is crisp and cool and the veil of dreams light and airy, is certainly one of the greatest sources of inspiration for me. God's promises are new, and a niggle of dream-sleep tugs at my heartstrings. Often, remnants of a hidden thought blossom into a song of the soul, ripe for sharing. It is then that writers such as myself feel the urge to unleash what has been held so close to our hearts.

I love to rise before the rest of the world stretches from slumber, brew a pot of coffee and sip steaming java as the sun dances over the horizon. Often, I sit on my back porch and consider what angels have spoken while I dreamed, plotting in my head as my brain comes to full alertness. As I listen to the sounds and scents that swirl around, my creativity is fueled and my spirit is renewed by the splendor that God has placed before me. All is quiet and still...new and ripe with promise. The day is a clean page just waiting for a scene to be written.

In this respect, our lives are like books, each day a fresh, clean page, every season a new chapter. Second chances abound by God's everpresent grace. I stand in awe of His love for me and for all of creation. I have learned through experience to slow down, to listen...to savor. Nothing is gained by rushing, and treasures are amassed only by virtue of patience.

Have angels spoken to you? Have you found mercy in the awesomeness of a new morning...in the glory of a sunrise? Share your God-given page, and together we can write a novel of inspiration, filled with God's unbridled grace.

  1. What a beautiful post on inspiration, Miss Mary! Rising early certainly works for you, as evidenced by your constantly growing backlist of wonderful novels. Thanks for sharing what inspires you!

  2. Angels have spoken to me. I was about to get an Xray when one told me not to. I even looked around to see who had spoken. There was no one there. It was an angel. I found out a few days later I was pregnant with my daughter.

Actually I am something of a lazybones-late sleeper. But I do always awake when it's first light and listen to the birds and say a prayer of thanksgiving.

  3. Very nice. I too rise early, enjoy coffee and sit on my porch if the weather permits. Good times for inspiration and reflection.
